Southwest Gifted and Talented Community
The Southwest GT Community provides connection to support, educate and advocate for GT families in Southwest Colorado. Through advocacy and outreach activities, our team works to help these gifted children, as well as parents and educators of gifted children.

Here at Southwest GT Community, we are driven by a single goal; to help gifted children reach their maximum potential. Our organization provides resources and advocacy help for families in southwest Colorado trying to navigate the complexities of gifted education for their children. We aim to help nurture the education and growth of these children.
March 15, 2018 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, we celebrated the new Southwest Gifted and Talented Community. Guest speaker Jessica Reed, licensed therapist and expert on social emotional issues affecting gifted kids, was our guest speaker. Pizza was provided by Homeslice and chocolate, treats, and door prizes were provided by Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and Fuzziwigs.

August 9, 2018, the SWGT group will sponsor a summer picnic and ice cream social! This will be held in Eagle Park 1189 Bayfield Pkwy in Bayfield CO. Come play with the GT community. Bring a picnic dinner, your family, and fun stuff to play. We will provide the ice cream and toppings! Kids are invited to bring a used toy or book to swap! April 30, 2018, the SWGT group sponsored the 2018 SWGT Summer Enrichment Fair at the Powerhouse, 1333 Camino del Rio Durango CO. We welcomed local reps of programs offering summer enrichment on our gallery walk of summer camps & activities of all types. Also The Powerhouse and Maker Lab staff spoke to SWGT about opportunities at our local science haven: summer enrichment, career ladder, Maker Lab, & scholarships! Food and door prizes were provided. November 8, 2018, the SWGT group will sponsor an "Advocating for your Gifted Student" event at the Durango Public Library. Free Homeslice Pizza, desserts, and drinks. This event is for families and students. Attached is the event flyer.
